NEILOLIVERPHOTO

The year ahead.

Everyone seems to be doing a year summary so i though i would do a quick one and try and set some targets for next year.

At the start of the year i set myself the target to focus on my live music photography. Thanks to my amazing girlfriend, and friends in different bands, i have managed to get into a few different gigs with my camera and even in the pit to shoot up close and personal. I havent done loads of gigs, but i have got to shoot one of my favorite bands and i have just got some prints done so i can put them up around my flat as i am really proud of the results.

I also set myself the target of getting paid for a photography gig, and as much as i was going to say i failed at that one, i was taken to evens as the photographer for Demakes and it is planned that i will be doing some promotional photos for Show It Off. It might not be anything to shout about, but it means that other people are putting value on my photography which is great as this is the first year i have focused my efforts on photography related to live music.

As for next year, the main priority is to keep up the progress that i have made in 2011. I am hoping that the few gigs i have done so far can be built into a portfolio i can use to start to get passes to more gigs. I am going to try and keep getting things printed up as well. I havent done a lot of that over the year, but it feels so good to see my work hanging on a wall, even if it is only in my flat.

I have contacted some online magazines to try and get some work and to help me get into some gigs. The more i can do to build a portfolio the better.

The other thing i want to focus on this year is some photography with models. Thanks to Grace and Demakes, i have had so much fun this year playing around in studio environments and using off camera flashes that i really want to expand on that. This will be the focus of my learning for 2012. I keep looking at the work of the young photographers around me such as Jordan Green and seeing how great they are and how much fun they seems to have at shoots for Brands such as Honor Over Glory and clients such as front magazine and i want to chase that a little bit and see if i can start to develop my own unique style of photography, which i feel i am lacking outside of a wedding environment.

It might seem weird to put all of this on my official blog, but i have always been open and honest about who i am with my photography and i hope that clients choose to work with me because of the portfolio of work they see infront of them and having trust in me as a person. If i am honest and open and i try my best then nothing more can be asked of me.

I hope you all had a great 2011 and are looking forward to an exciting 2012.
